Building vs. Buying a House

Posted By Ryan Nielsen @ Jan 8th 2017 10:20am In: New Home

The single largest investment that an individual will make in their life, a new home, should be everything they want it to be. With this in mind, is it better to buy a home or build your dream home from scratch? Both have their pros and cons, and if you're stuck on what to do, we've put together some helpful information that should assist you.

Buying a Home

Buying a home means you already have the structure and foundation in place. It's essentially a blank canvas for you to get creative with and put your spin on. It can take a while to find the right home for you, but buying a home is often cheaper and quicker than building your own home from scratch.

Buying an existing house or flat gives you the option of adding on extensions or refurbishing as you see fit. Over time, you can turn an existing building into the perfect home for you. Buying a home is certainly the most common option, as it's the most convenient and cost-effective.

Building a Home

Building a home takes a great deal of time, effort, and knowledge. It doesn't offer the same convenience as buying an existing house; not only do you have to find the right land, you will also have to factor in the time to find an architect or builder. This is only the beginning. Additionally, you will be required to choose every element of the new structure from the inside out. Joining an existing development can certainly streamline the process, but it may limit your options when it comes to creativity.
