You’ll need to perform some background research beforehand, though.

What to Look For

Locating a commercial real estate agency is like selecting a doctor or dentist. You’ll need a bit of common sense, professional or personal connections, and some good, old-fashioned research. Here is what you’re looking for:

  • Expertise – Your commercial broker should have prior experience helping tenants locate offices, retail, or other commercial spaces. Avoid those who work primarily with residential clients.
  • Transaction representation – Your ideal broker will have worked consistently with tenants throughout the entire rental process. In a small town, this trait may be difficult to find.
