Preparing Your Home for an Open House
When your home is about to hit the open market, the first task you will take is to hold an open house. If your home has been listed with a real estate agent, your agent will help you prepare and organize the entire home for resale. Without an agent, however, and the task of an open house falls solely on you. Perform a bit of research beforehand to really make a difference when it comes to showing newcomers around your home.
Basic Tips
For starters, try to remove the excess clutter in your home. Renting a storage unit or a portable pod can work wonders to safely store your items for a short period of time. You want a bit of breathing room throughout each room in the home, allowing potential buyers the opportunity to really explore the house and what it has to offer.
Next, spend some time cleaning the entire interior and exterior. Clean out the rain gutters, the windows, the window screens, and power wash the exterior of the home. Purchase new house numbers if yours are outdated or broken, and even invest in a welcome mat to ensure the household is more inviting.
Stage Your Home
This may seem somewhat cheesy, but stage your home using various pieces of furniture and accessories. Your house should look enticing enough for someone to walk in and truly want to invest in the purchase of your home. Fresh towels in the bathroom, a nice vase of flowers, less furniture cluttering the living room and entryway. Walls should be freshly painted and pristine. An open house is all about appearances at this point.
